In my years of practice I’ve found that women tend to be a bit more comfortable speaking their mind, and talking about their thoughts and feelings. Men are conditioned otherwise. It typically takes a crisis for a man to consider counseling; possibly a fear of losing a relationship, depression, or perhaps career changes that are causing anxiety. Today, men are in need of more support than ever. In many cases their roles have changed. The expectations imposed upon them at work and at home are often confusing. They don’t always have a person they can trust with these feelings…. think Tony Soprano and his reluctance with “seeing a shrink”. Taking an opportunity to get an outsider’s perspective that is supportive and non-judgmental is a genuine solution.
